Nutrition counseling session

Are you looking for guidance on any of the following?

  • Eating out at dining centers or restaurants
  • Eating at home
  • Grocery shopping strategies
  • Weight management
  • Nutrition to support an active lifestyle
  • Nutrition for optimal health and disease prevention
  • Improving your relationship with food
  • Other general nutrition lifestyle behavior changes

The Nutrition Counseling Service offers individualized nutrition guidance and healthy lifestyle behavior change counseling facilitated by senior and graduate-level nutrition and dietetics students and under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

After registering for the service, you will be assigned a student nutrition counselor within 1-2 weeks, who will then contact you about an initial consultation. Student counselors work collaboratively with each client to assess your current eating and lifestyle habits, goals and values in an effort to guide you in reaching your specific nutrition and health goals. You can meet with a counselor once, or at regular intervals, in-person (Wallace Hall) or online via Zoom.

This service is free and available to Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff according to the following terms: Fall, Spring, Summer.

Please note: Nutrition counselors are skilled in counseling and nutrition education but are not able to provide treatment for medical conditions. Individuals with needs beyond the scope of the service or with an eating disorder will be referred to appropriate providers on and off-campus. The service does not provided tailored menu plans, but will offer guidance in developing menus and recipes according to your individual needs.
