Science-focused degree where students explore interdisciplinary content in human health, with a focus on nutrition, exercise, and physical activity. Students choose to major in Exercise and Health Sciences or Nutrition and Dietetics and take career specific courses in those majors.

Flexible major that prepares students for a variety of careers in medicine, health, and wellness. Students find the major meets most admission requirements for graduate programs in health professions such as physical therapy, physician assistant, and dentistry, among others.

ACEND accredited major that prepares students to pursue the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential. The curriculum provides the education and learning experiences needed to be successful in the profession of nutrition and dietetics and meets admission requirements for most RDN graduate programs.

Meraki is the well-being Living Learning Community on the Virginia Tech campus that is open to all students interested in wellness, well-being, or health science careers. Meraki serves as a great opportunity to connect with fellow HNFE students and other students across Virginia Tech with similar majors and interests in the career paths you're exploring.
Frequently Asked Questions
Students are considered transfer students if they have attempted 12 or more credit hours at any college or university after high school graduation. Requirements, financial aid, roadmaps, and other resources are available on the Transfer Students Admissions website.

Students applying to HNFE should have one semester of CHEM 1035 General Chemistry complete by the time of application.
Can students in HNFE study abroad? YES! HNFE offers several faculty-led programs each year, and students can also go abroad as exchange students, through third party providers, or by enrolling directly in another university. To learn more about study abroad, visit The Global Education Office.
Undergraduate students can participate in academic research alongside faculty in HNFE as well as other departments across campus. Students can learn more about HNFE research by visiting HNFE Research Labs or by viewing individual faculty research areas.
